FAQs

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Paradigm Pelvic Health & Wellness is considered an ‘out-of-network’ provider with all insurance companies. Therefore, although payment is required at the time of your service, a percentage of your out-of-pocket expenses will most likely be reimbursed to you directly by your insurance company. We will provide you with a claim form, or ‘superbill’, that you can submit to your insurance company for them to reimburse you directly. We recommend reaching out to your insurance company in advance to see what your out-of-network benefits are. In our experience, many get 50%-100% reimbursement, depending on the specific insurance plan and whether or not a deductible has been met. We do accept HSA and FSA as a form of payment.

Why is paradigm pelvic health & wellness out-of-network?

Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality of personalized care that we can. We feel strongly about providing one-on-one care during extended sessions to allow us to adequately listen to you and provide appropriate treatment. You will be treated one-on-one by a Doctor of Physical Therapy for the duration of each treatment session. We ultimately believe that your specific needs are what should dictate your care, not the regulations and stipulations set forth by many insurance companies, which can limit or alter a treatment plan.

Although becoming a patient at Paradigm is certainly an investment, attending physical therapy on an out-of-network basis can be more cost effective that attending an in-network practice. Because we are able to see you one-on-one, for 60, 90, or 120 minutes, we can often accomplish more in one visit than you might accomplish in several months at an out-of-network practice. Everyone’s needs are individual, but we typically see individuals every other week, with frequency of visits decreasing as you progress toward your goals.

We collect payment at the time of service, and accept credit/debit card payments, as well as HSA/FSA cards. We work with each patient to develop a plan that works for their schedule, lifestyle, and budget.

do you ONLY treat the pelvic floor?

We treat a number of orthopedic issues that span beyond the pelvic floor. Dr. Priestas is of the distinguished 10% of physical therapists that are identified as board-certified orthopedic clinical specialists. As such, she has extensive training and experience working with individuals who have any number of orthopedic conditions. From neck pain and chronic headaches to knee and foot problems, at Paradigm, we approach all orthopedic issues as a “whole body” problem to find the “why?” behind your pain and address it. Dr. Priestas has many years of experience utilizing dry needling for individuals who deal with chronic myofascial pain issues. So, you certainly don’t have to have a pelvic floor problem to be seen at Paradigm.

do i need a referral?

In Maryland and West Virginia, a referral from a physician is not required to attend pelvic health physical therapy. If your therapist feels additional medical examination or treatment is indicated, we may encourage you to see a physician or can refer you to a physician.

how long after having a baby should i wait before starting?

We like to see patients for their first postpartum session between 4-6 weeks after birth. You are welcome to bring your baby to the session. If you would like additional support prior to the 4 week mark, we do offer virtual services.

can i bring my baby/child?

Yes! We love babies and kids. If you are currently nursing, we encourage you to nurse your baby as needed throughout the appointment. We also have a waiting area where family or older children are welcome to hang out while you are receiving your care.

Can i bring my partner to my appointment?

Of course. Partners regularly attend physical therapy sessions. This can be especially helpful if there are ways we can educate your partner to help you at home.

What should i wear to my appointment?

Whatever is comfortable to you! You don’t have to wear any specific type of clothing, but we will likely be moving quite a bit, so we encourage you to wear something that will facilitate that.

should i cancel my appointment if i’m on my period?

Treatment while on your period is a decision left solely up to you. While we understand that the nature of our appointments can make this seem like a definite “No!”, we are still able to treat patients during menstruation or focus only on external techniques and exercises during that particular session. However, if this is something you are not comfortable with, we can reschedule your appointment to a more appropriate time.
